Kenya postpones WIBF title fight due to late arrival of American boxer

Kenya's boxing officials have postponed the much-awaited World International Boxing Federation (WIBF) title fight between Kenyan star Conjestina Achieng and American Tiffany Carter, which was due for Saturday.

According to one of the promoters, Solid Rocks Promotions, the bout will now be held on the 9th of this month in Nairobi.

Promoter Franklin Imbenzi said they had to call off the bout since her opponent has not arrived in the country as expected.

Imbezi told Xinhua by telephone that Achieng's rival is expected to arrive Saturday night, one week before the bout.

"We have now rescheduled the show for September 9 in Nairobi," said Imbenzi by telephone.

The decision to postpone the bout came a day after the WIBF champion Conjestina issued a 12-hour deadline to the organizers to confirm the bout or else she pulls out.

The Kenyan boxing star had been training for the past few months.

Achieng, who has been stripped of her World Boxing Foundation (WBF) title for having failed to defend the title within the stipulated six-month period, will now vie for either the World Boxing Association (WBA) or World International Boxing Association Federation (WIBF) title next Saturday in Nairobi. Both titles are vacant.
