China will establish three modern ship-building bases around Bohai Bay, at the mouth of the Changjiang and Pearl Rivers for the mid-and long-term development of the shipping industry.

An official from the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense said China's share of the world's ship-building industry has increased to 20 percent in 2005 from 6 percent in 2000. The output of domestically-produced ships ranks the third in the world for the eleventh consecutive year.
