South Korea's publicly-owned Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Corp. is interested in the construction of reactors 3 and 4 of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant, visiting South Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun stated on Wednesday, after meeting his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu.
"Cernavoda is one of the projects we are interested in. I want to tell you that the Korean Government will do its utmost for the Romanian people to reap advantages from this project and both countries enjoy common benefits," said the South-Korean President, who on Tuesday arrived in Bucharest for a three-day visit.
Basescu specified that the Korean company was already selected alongside another 12 companies as a potential contractor for the construction of reactors 3 and 4.
"At the same time, we see that Korea's large Doosan Group has acquired IMGB, a company that, apart from machines, has the capacity to produce the necessary equipment for nuclear reactors. We are considering a serious involvement of Korean companies under the prospect of the construction of Cernavoda reactors 3 and 4," Basescu said.
He added that it is quite likely that in the near future South- Korean investors will voice interest in other areas, such as research and technology or the defense industry October 2005.
