China says six-party talks should continue
font size

Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan on Friday said the six-party talks are the most effective means of achieving denuclearization and safeguarding the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula.

Tang made the remarks when he met with visiting president of Jiji News Agency Wakabayashi Seizo.

Tang said China hopes the six-party talks process would resume, saying it is in each side's interest and also each side's responsibility to safeguard peace and avoid instability.

He said the situation on the Korean Peninsula not only affects the peace and development of North and South Korea, but also the interests of China and Japan.

The six-party talks, involving China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the United States, the Republic of Korea, Russia and Japan, stalled following the last round in Beijing last November.
