Hong Kong's Economic Summit to be held on Sept. 11 will focus on how to enhance Hong Kong's position as the world's trading, finance and logistics center, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Donald Tsang said Friday.

The Chief Executive had invited 33 personalities from the industrial and business, professional, labor and academic sectors to attend the Economic Summit on "China's 11th Five-Year Program and the Development of Hong Kong".

Tsang held a meeting Friday with convenors of the summit's four focus groups on trade and business, professional services, information and technology and tourism, financial services, as well as maritime, logistics and infrastructure to exchange views on issues to be raised during the summit and follow-up actions to be taken.

He said the summit will discuss how Hong Kong should respond to the challenges and opportunities arising from the Chinese mainland 's 11th Five-Year Program and to come up with a set of strategic proposals. After the summit, the focus groups will discuss in depth the proposals, with a view to submitting an action agenda setting out specific follow-up actions to the Chief Executive by the end of this year.

The objective of the Economic Summit is to provide a platform for the Government, the industrial and business, professional, labor and academic sectors to discuss how Hong Kong should respond to the challenges and opportunities arising from the 11th Five- Year Program and to come up with a set of strategic proposals.
