The U.S. dollar slightly lost ground in the lower half of 116 yen Friday in Tokyo as the market became cautious after a German finance official said the financial leaders of the Group of Seven economies will take up the issue of the yen's recent weakness at their talks late next week.
At 5 p.m., the dollar was quoted at 116.26-29 yen, compared with its 5 p.m. Thursday quotes of 116.38-48 yen in New York and 116.94-97 yen in Tokyo.
It moved between 116.11 yen and 116.54 yen in the day, trading most frequently at 116.20 yen.
The euro was quoted at 1.2722-2725 dollars and 147.93-97 yen, against its 5 p.m. Thursday quotes of 1.2726-2736 dollars and 148. 19-29 yen in New York and 1.2796-2799 dollars and 149.67-71 yen in Tokyo.
