Doctors successfully performed a prostrate surgery on Pakistan's nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Pakistan's southwest port city Karachi on Saturday, according to local reports on Sunday.
Abdul Qadeer Khan was moved to the hospital from Islamabad on Thursday night for treatment of his cancer-affected prostate called adenocarcinoma.
The operation began at 11 a.m. local time and concluded at 1:42 p.m. local time. Khan regained consciousness and came out of the effects of anesthesia after one hour and a half. Later, he was moved to a room where he met his wife, daughters and sister, according to the reports.
After doctors discharge him from the hospital, Khan intends to spend a few days at his sister's house in Karachi, The Nation reported.
Khan is to undergo a bone scanning and Magnitude Resonance Image (MRI) test on Sunday to confirm that the malignancy has not spread to other parts of the body, according to Daily Times report.
Khan, 70, is considered the pioneer of Pakistan's nuclear program. He has been under house arrested since January 2004, when he confessed to leaking nuclear secrets to Libya, Iran and an another country.
