Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in Beijing on Tuesday China opposes Japan making new dispute on the East China Sea.
Qin said at a regular press conference when responding to a journalist's question that the development of the Chunxiao oil and gas field was carried out within the not-disputed Chinese offing and thus is the normal activity of China of exercising sovereign rights.
It is all China's affair of sovereignty and China has no obligation and need to report to Japan on the exploitation, said Qin.
As to the disputed area of East China Sea, Qin said the two sides should resolve the dispute through consultation.
He said the East China Sea is not yet delimited and China has never accepted the so-called "middle line" claimed by Japan and will never accept it in the future.
China will neither accept discussion on joint-development of East China Sea based on the "middle line", said Qin.
When responding to when the next round of China-Japan talks will be held which underwent six rounds, Qin said the date still needs to be set with consultation of both sides.
