Malaysia will consider setting up more flying schools to accommodate the demand from China, Transport Minister Chan Kong Choy said Wednesday.
China, with a booming aviation industry, has shown keen interest in sending its trainee commercial pilots to Malaysia, said Chan.
For the four flying schools in the country, enrollment has reached about 90 percent of the maximum capacity of 700 trainees at the moment, Chan told reporters in the administrative center of Putrajaya.
"Malaysia has become attractive for trainee pilots due to its Commercial Pilot License being highly recognized by the world and the reasonable cost offered for the course," Chan added.
China will be sending a team to Malaysia soon to evaluate its facilities and flying curriculum, Chan said, adding that currently most of the pilot trainees at the flying schools in Malaysia are locals.
He said the move is good in enhancing cooperation between the two countries as well as a source of foreign exchange earning for Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Chan reiterated Malaysia's expectation for increasing flights between the two countries.
He expressed his hope that the current 80 flights between Malaysia and the Chinese mainland could be expanded to 100 flights by the end of this year.
