Mainland to promote cross-Straits financial dialogue: official

The mainland government will promote cross-Straits financial cooperation, said an official at a press conference on Wednesday.

Li Weiyi, spokesman of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, was replying to Taiwan's stated willingness to open RMB exchange services on the island.

In response to questions about Taiwan enterprises listing on the mainland stock market, Li said the mainland will help Taiwan firms which meet listing requirements join the mainland market.

Asked whether the Olympic torch relay would pass through Taiwan, Li said the mainland hopes that Taiwan people can share the exciting moment of the Olympic torch relay.

"We are considering Taiwan compatriots' desires in designing the Olympic torch relay route," Li said, adding that the route is subject to the International Olympic Committee.

Li said Taiwan enterprises such as Uni-President Group are taking part in Beijing Olympic Games projects and some Taiwan companies have contacted the Beijing Organizing Committee about other cooperation opportunities.
