Canon to recall 1.87 million copiersCanon Inc. on September 12 declared that it will provide free tests and services for the replacement of parts and components worldwide for about 1.87 million Canon copiers to guard against any potential risks of ignition. Canon spokesman said the possible hidden risks involve 11 types of copiers, including PC7 type, 80 type and 100 type, with approximately 1.87 million copy machines produced during a decade from 1987 to 1997. Among them, around 820,000 were sold to North America, 690,000 sold to Europe, 140,000 to Japan, and another 220,000 to elsewhere in the world. According to the canon spokesman, as there exist hidden risks in power cord joints, the above-mentioned types of copiers could possibly turn overheated and get ignited. As for whether these types of copiers have been sold to China and what are the related recalling methods, Xinhua reporters have tried to contact Canon (China) Co., Ltd. for several times Wednesday morning but failed to get any response.
