Foot-rot kills 300 cattle in mid-western Nepal
font size

Some 300 domestic animals, mostly sheep, died of foot-rot in Karan area of the remote part to Mugu district in mid-western Nepal, the National News Agency RSS reported Saturday.

According to the RSS, the disease spread in Kimri, Magri, Dolphu, Mugu and Pulu villages in the district, some 600 km west of Kathmandu, from July.

No concern was shown from the District Livestock Services Office for the control of the disease, the report said.

The villages' secretaries demanded a team with medicines. However, chief of the livestock office Ram Kumar Thakur said a team couldn't be sent because of lack of medicines.

The victims said they were in great loss as they had brought China's Tibetan sheep for the Dashain festival next month.
