Pakistani authorities in southern city Karachi have arrested 25 Indian fishermen for illegally entering Pakistani territorial seawaters to sail for fishing, the Geo Television reported Sunday.

The 25 fishermen were arrested from the Pakistani seawater limits by the local Maritime Security Agency and were handed over to police in the coastal city, where the fishermen would be presented in the court on Monday, according to Geo.

It usually happened that fishermen from both Pakistan and India were arrested and detained by each other for entering the other's territorial seawaters.

Pakistan said, during the first half of year 2006, it has released 112 Indian prisoners, including 19 civilian prisoners and 93 fishermen, while the Indian government had released 60 civilian prisoners and 59 fishermen.

The fishermen were arrested for fishing in other's waters.

As part of the peace process from January 2004, the two governments agreed to expedite the release of each other's

prisoners caught on the wrong side of the border.
