font size

Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi left here Monday evening, wrapping up his six-day official visit to China.

Prodi arrived in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, on Sept. 13. It was the first leg of his China visit. He then visited Guangzhou in south China's Guangdong Province, and Shanghai and Tianjin cities.

During Prodi's stay in Beijing starting Sept. 17, President Hu Jintao met with him. They exchanged views on the development of bilateral relations and some international and regional issues of common concern. The two sides also agreed to expand reciprocal cooperation in various fields so as to cement the China-Italy comprehensive strategic partnership.

Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with Prodi. They also paid visit to an Italian art exhibition held in the National Art Museum, which is an important part of the on-going Year of Italy activities in China.

During his China visit, Prodi attended several activities promoting the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, including the China-Italy Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Fair held in Guangzhou and an Italy-Jiangsu economic and trade forum held in Nanjing.

Invited by Wen, it was Prodi's first China visit after he assumed the office of prime minister in May.
