U.S. journalist delegation visits China to deepen understanding

A delegation of U.S. journalists arrived in Beijing on Tuesday to gain a deeper understanding of China so as to make objective and unbiased reports on the country's development, according to China's Foreign Ministry.

Organized by the Better Hong Kong Foundation, the delegation comprised nine senior editors and reporters from the U.S. media, including Foreign Policy magazine, USA Today and the Wall Street Journal Asia.

In a meeting with the delegation, Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei expressed his hope that the visit would promote bilateral understanding and positively, and contribute to the sound development of bilateral ties.

He said China and the United States shared common interests in maintaining peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and the world.

The two sides should consider each other's core interests and properly handle disputes in an effort to promote cooperative and constructive relations.

He also answered questions on China's peaceful development, China-Japan relations as well as the Iran nuclear issue, the Middle East peace process and other major international issues.

The delegation will also visit China's southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
