The U.S.-based Rohm and Haas, a major global specialty chemicals manufacturer, launched Wednesday an offshore research and development center in Shanghai.

Company sources said the newly established center is the American company's second global R&D center. The center will provide services for clients in China and in other Asian countries and regions.

Located in Zhangjiang High-tech Park in Shanghai, the new 60 million U.S. dollars R&D center covers a total area of 33,000 square meters.

Rohm and Haas supplies materials and technologies that enhance the performance of paints and coatings, computers and electronic devices, household goods, adhesives and personal care products.
