IBM opens fourth facility in west Indian city

IT giant IBM opened the fourth facility in Kolkata, the capital of west Indian state West Bengal, on Thursday, Indo-Asian News Service reported.

The new facility will hire about 3,000 employees once fully staffed, said Shanker Annaswamy, managing director of IBM India.

The facility would deliver high value solutions to help IBM clients innovate globally, Annaswamy said.

IBM has already employed 4,000 people in Kolkata.

The U.S.-based company is also working with the city in training professionals. It has set up a deep computing visualization lab with a research grant of 75,000 U.S. dollars with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.

The company will start an IBM appropriate continued education program that will enable Bachelor of Science students in the state to train with the company to receive a Master of Science ( Technology) degree from the Mysore University in a period of four years.
