Chinese, US navy start first phase of joint military drills

Chinese navy vessels, the destroyer "Qingdao" and the refueling tanker "Hongzehu", concluded their visit to the US mainland and put to sea from the Port of San Diego with US missile cruiser 93 (Zhongyun) on the morning of September 20. Meanwhile, the Chinese and US navies have begun the first phase of their joint military search and rescue drills.

The second phase will be held at sea in the area around Qingdao in November.
