India's Sensex ends lower

Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex closed at 12,236.78 points on Friday, down 37.49 points or 0.31 percent from the previous day close.

The turnover of the index reached 8.5164 billion rupees (185.14 million U.S. dollars) on Friday.

Sensex is the common name for the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensitive Index. It consists of the 30 largest and most actively traded stocks, representative of various sectors, on the Bombay Stock Exchange. The base value of the Sensex is 100 on April 1, 1979.
