Johannesburg stock ends higherThe Johannesburg Security Exchange ended the week on a positive note on Friday, buoyed by a sharply weaker rand and higher commodity prices. The strength came despite global bourses suffering widespread losses. The all share index ended 0.56 percent higher. Resources rallied 1.86 percent, with the gold and platinum mining indices jumping 3.47 percent and 4.58 percent respectively. Industrials inched 0.13 percent higher. Financials fell 1.12 percent, however, while the banks index was 3.23 percent in the red. On the all share index, 69 shares were up, 29 were unchanged and 64 were down. There were 18 advancers on the Top 40 index and 22 decliners, while one counter closed flat. Friday's gains took the all share index 2.94 percent into the black for the week.
