The Jantantrik Terai Mukti Morcha, a faction breaking away from the Nepali guerrillas, has claimed responsibility for murdering a law maker on Saturday, local media reported on Sunday.
Jaya Krishna Goet, chairman of Morcha, said they killed parliament member Krishna Charan Shrestha for his economic exploitation of poor people, Kantipur daily, a leading Nepali- language newspaper reported.
Three gunmen, who came on two motorcycles, shot dead Shrestha at his residence in Belha village of Siraha district, some 350 km east of the capital city Kathmandu.
Shrestha received three rounds of short machine-gun shots in the chest, neck and stomach, according to Siraha Hospital.
Shrestha, who represented Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) in the House of Representatives, is also the former Minister of Agriculture.
Goet also claimed that two Morcha cadres were killed by villagers. The third assailant, who was reportedly carrying a short machine gun, however, managed to escape, according to District Police Office.
A villager was killed and two others were seriously injured in indiscriminate firings by assailants after the villagers attempted to capture them, said the report.
