Two Iraqi soldiers were killed and two others wounded when a suicide bomber blew up his car into a checkpoint in Tal Afar town in northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Sunday, provincial police told Xinhua.

"A suicide bomber drove his explosive-laden car into a checkpoint manned by Iraqi soldiers in central Tal Afar town and blew it up at about 9:00 a.m. (0500 GMT)," the source said on condition of anonymity.

The blast killed two soldiers and wounded two others, along with damaging three nearby buildings and three cars, he said.

The town of Tal Afar, some 60 km northwest of Nineveh's provincial capital of Mosul, is inhabited with mixed Sunni Arab and minorities of Kurds and Shiite Arab.
