Beijing's foreign trade exceeds 100 bln USD in first eight months

Foreign trade in Beijing, China's capital, reached 103.4 billion U.S. dollars in the first eight months of this year, up 31 percent from the same period last year.

Figures from Beijing Statistics Bureau show imports were up 35.6 percent to 80.1 billion U.S. dollars, while the exports rose 17.5 percent to 23.3 billion U.S. dollars.

Foreign-funded businesses contributed about 44 percent, or 10.2 billion U.S. dollars, to total exports, up 46.9 percent from the previous year.

Exports of electro-mechanical products were up 44 percent to 13.3 billion U.S. dollars, and those of new and high-technology products rose 47.5 percent to 8.4 billion U.S. dollars.

During the first eight months, China's foreign trade reached a record of 1,104.6 billion U.S. dollars, up 23.9 from the same period last year.
