China's legislature held a training class from Sept. 24 to 25 on the implementation of the Supervision Law of Standing Committees of People's Congresses at Various Levels, aiming to enhance the supervision power of people's congresses.

Sheng Huaren, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's legislature, said at the training class that supervision power of people's congresses at various levels is an important power endowed by the Constitution and an important component of the country's supervision system.

"The aims of supervision by people's congresses are to ensure the implementation of the Constitution and laws, the fulfillment of administrative, judicial and prosecuting power, and the legal rights of citizens, corporations and other organizations," he said.

The supervision power of people's congresses should be exerted by their standing committees in group, he said.

Sheng said to better exert supervision power, standing committees of people's congresses at various levels should hear and analyze issues and problems reported by all circles of the society, carefully select, hear and deliberate reports by governmental departments and organize inspections to examine law implementation.

Staff of standing committees of provincial level people's congresses attended the training class.

The Supervision Law of Standing Committees of People's Congresses at Various Levels will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2007.
