Dismissal of Chen Shui-bian now on agenda of Taiwan's legislature
font size

The procedural committee of Taiwan's legislature on Tuesday accepted a motion by the People First Party (PFP) to dismiss Chen Shui-bian and placed it on the agenda of the next session of the legislature which will be held in October.

It is the second such proposal put forward by the PFP.

PFP Chairman James Soong recently said it is the people of Taiwan have the final say on Chen's stay and departure. He urged the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to support PFP's motion.

Ma Ying-jeou, chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT), also hopes a dismissal bill is passed.

On June 27, Taiwan's legislature failed to pass a similar jointly proposed bill.

According to local law, the dismissal of Taiwan leader must be passed by at least 148 votes or a two thirds majority of "legislators".
