The Kremlin Museum of Russia on Thursday opened an exhibition of its 200 treasures at China's Forbidden City.

This was the first time that the 200-year-old Kremlin Museum dedicated its exhibits to China.

Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi and Russian Presidential Chief of Staff Sergei Sobyanin on Thursday unveiled the exhibition entitled "Treasures of the Kremlin", which will run till Jan. 8 next year.

The exhibition showcases jewellery, fabrics, weapons and armour of the Russia from 16th Century to the 20th century.

"What the Forbidden City means to China is exactly as what Kremlin means to Russia," said Yelena Gagarina, the Kremlin Museum director. "It's a great honor to stage the exhibition here."

The Forbidden City is the imperial court complex of China's last two dynasties, the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911).

"The items of this exhibition are part of the best works of the Kremlin Museum," she said.

The exhibition is one of the important cultural events of the ongoing "Year of Russia in China".

Wu said the exhibition would help step up the cultural exchanges between the two neighbors.
