Overseas Chinese celebrate National Day in Beijing

The Chinese Foreign Ministry invited more than 1,300 overseas Chinese representatives to attend a grand reception Friday evening to celebrate the country's National Day which falls on Oct. 1.

Addressing the reception, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing extended sincere regards to overseas Chinese and thanked them for their important contributions to China's construction.

He said China still faces arduous tasks in its economic development. The country will continue to comprehensively implement the scientific concept of development and contribute to building a harmonious world of lasting peace and common prosperity.

Li said the Foreign Ministry and China's embassies and consulates abroad will continue to safeguard the legitimate rights of overseas Chinese and offer help to them.

Representatives of overseas Chinese expressed best wishes for the country and pledged to exert their utmost to the development of China.
