The Chinese People's Armed Police Force has deployed a crack force to ensure the security of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway during the week-long National Day holiday.

The Armed Police Corps in Tibet and Qinghai have set up guards on key bridges, tunnels and sections since the railway started operation on July 1.

Their duties include preventing and handling accidents and helping needy local residents and passengers.

Emergency response plans have been made and inspections have been carried out in preparation for the "Golden Week" from Oct. 1 to 7, sources said.

Intensive training has been given to armed policemen in emergency response and adverse weather contingencies, and coordination has been set up with railway police departments and local governments.

At least 1,000 armed police will be on duty on key sections along the railway during the holidays.

The Qinghai-Tibet Railway stretches 1,956 kilometers from Xining, capital of northwest China's Qinghai Province, to Lhasa. About 960 kilometers is located 4,000 meters above sea level and the highest point is 5,072 meters, at least 200 meters higher than the Peruvian railway in the Andes, formerly the world's highest track.
