Expert consulting team needed to enhance emergency response

Chinese military experts on Friday called for the establishment of expert consulting teams that will be highly coordinated and readily available to deal with emergencies.

At a symposium held in the University of National Defense, experts from the military and local governments discussed how expertise could be offered to deal with emergencies.

There has been enhanced cooperation between the military and local authorities in dealing with emergencies in recent years, but some emergencies require technical expertise that requires military leaders and local officials to seek professional advice, said the experts.

Expertise is particularly needed in the decision-making when earthquakes, floods, explosions, nuclear and biochemical accidents and public health incidents occur, said a military expert.

The experts also talked about team building and management at the symposium, which was organized by the Headquarters of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army.
