S. Korea hails UN Security Council statement on DPRK nuclear test plan
font size

The South Korean government hailed on Saturday a UN Security Council statement against the nuclear test plan of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

South Korea "supports and welcomes the U.N. Security Council's clear and strict position," as revealed in the council's presidential statement, against the DPRK's Oct. 3 statement on conducting a nuclear test, said the South Korean Foreign Ministry.

The DPRK "must also realize that a nuclear test would not give it any benefits. Therefore, it should immediately cancel its nuclear test plan and return to the six-party talks without any pre-conditions," the ministry said in a statement.

The UN Security Council presidential statement, issued on Friday, expressed "deep concern" over the DPRK's announcement, over which South Korea has also repeatedly expressed concerns and urged for a diplomatic solution.
