font size

Head of the United Nations team assigned by Secretary General Kofi Annan to assist in Nepal's ongoing peace process, Ian Martin, met with top leaders of the guerrilla Prachanda and Baburam Bhattarai here on Thursday.

According to a leading media group's website, eKantipur.com report, the meeting between Martin and the guerrilla leaders concentrated mainly on the issue of arms management.

According to the website, the guerrilla leaders told Martin that arms management will not be a problem if an agreement is reached on other political issues with the ruling Seven-Party Alliance (SPA) government.

Martin requested the guerrillas to explore political agreements with the government to make the peace process successful.

Martin also told the guerrilla leaders that the UN will assist in the peace process on the basis of the agreements between the SPA and the guerrillas.

Since Wednesday, Martin has paced up his meetings with senior political leaders in Nepal.
