Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong on Wednesday asked the whole nation to show more care for retired government officials and Party cadres, while giving full play to their role in the process of building a socialist harmonious society.
Zeng attended an awards ceremony in Beijing at which 107 departments and organizations and 302 individuals were praised for their excellent work in caring for the elderly.
About 100,000 individuals in China are in charge of retired officials affairs. Zeng said they should try their utmost to ensure the welfare for the old cadres and encourage them to make contributions to the country's development.
"We should listen to their (retired cadres') advice on how to build a harmonious society," Zeng said.
