Senior official stresses people's role in building harmonious society
font size

Building a harmonious socialist society needs more participation from the people, said senior official Jia Qinglin on Wednesday in Haikou.

The United Front and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) should also play a bigger role, noted Jia on a tour of several areas in Hainan Province.

In Qionghai City and Lingshui Yi Autonomous County, Jia said that building a new countryside must be closely combined with the building of a harmonious socialist society. Hainan should speed up agricultural development and encourage farmers to make greater contributions.

Unity of people of different nationalities is needed to achieve harmonious development and common prosperity, said Jia, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau.

Better planning and management of communities should be the priorities, he said.
