World champion Xie makes early exit to China Open badminton
font size

World champion Xie Xingfang bade an early farewell in the second round of the China Open badminton championships on Thursday in Guangzhou.

The second seed lost to her fellow Chinese Wang Yihan 21-14, 19-21 and 15-21.

Xie enjoyed her upperhand in the opening set with her fast footwork as Wang was unable to adapt to her kills.

Yet, Wang stayed calm and took the lead from the second set where Xie made a string of unforced errors. Wang staged fierce attacks from 10-all and win the set 21-19 to force the decider.

Wang played even better in the third set where she led from the very beginning and never surrendered her advantage throughout, winning the set 21-15 to put aside the world champion from the China Open.
