The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) will provide food to Nepali guerrilla fighters during the transitional phase after the ongoing peace process concludes, the local daily Kantipur reported on Monday.
"Food assistance may be approved for short-term as well as long- term as per the UN work principles," the leading Nepali language daily quoted Richard F. Ragan, newly appointed resident representative for Nepal, as saying.
"The WFP has taken a policy decision of providing food assistance to those returning home after peace process concludes and the fighters returning home after disarmament," Ragan said.
"The former fighters and their families both will be benefited from the program," he told the daily.
He said that WFP experiences in the countries like Angola, Mozambique and Cambodia in providing food assistance after conflict would be helpful to work in Nepal too.
