In yet another tragic incident involving the guerrillas, five people were critically injured when explosive left behind by the guerrillas went off in Nepal's western district of Kaski Tuesday afternoon, a leading local news website, nepalnews.com, reported Wednesday.
The report said the blast occurred inside a house at around 12: 00 (0615 GMT) Tuesday afternoon. All those injured in the blast were local residents.
One resident lost both of his legs in the blast while four others sustained serious injuries below their waists. A two-story house was also destroyed in the blast.
It is not known how the explosion occurred. The injured persons have been undergoing treatment at the Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara city, some 200 km west of Kathmandu.
A senior leader of the guerrilla, who visited the hospital to see the victims, assured that the guerrilla will bear the cost of treatment of all the injured persons, the report said.
Despite calls from national and international human rights groups and civil society organizations, the guerrillas continue to engage in abductions and extortion around the country -- in violation of the cease-fire code of conduct signed with the government, it added.
