Policemen and guerrillas engage in minor scuffle in Nepali capital
font size

Nepali guerrillas have imposed two hours of traffic jam from 8 to 10 a.m. (0215-0415 GMT) Wednesday morning in Nepali capital Kathmandu protesting "police atrocities."

According to an eyewitness, on Tuesday evening, policemen and the guerrillas had engaged in minor scuffle in Koteshwore area after the guerrillas "arrested" an Armed Police Force (APF) personnel.

Following the guerrilla's move, policemen and APF personnel went to Koteshwore and demanded that the guerrillas release their colleague.

When the guerrillas refused to do so, the policemen forcefully took him away to Hanumandhoka station. They resorted to light lathicharge injuring a few persons, according to the eyewitness.

The guerrillas have claimed that they "arrested" the police man after receiving complaints about his "criminal activities" from local residents of Jorpati area.

In recent months, the guerrillas have themselves "donned" police role and have claimed that they are working to make the Kathmandu Valley safe.
