Nepali Deputy PM calls for gov't-guerrilla summit to conclude by mid November

Nepali Deputy Prime Minister Amik Sherachan has stressed for the government-guerrilla summit talks to reach into an essential conclusion by mid-November, the National News Agency RSS reported on Thursday.

Speaking at a tea party on the occasion of Nepal Era new year 1127 here on Wednesday, Sherachan cautioned that various important issues including election to the Constituent Assembly and interim government would be affected if the summit talks fails to sketch certain understanding by mid-November.

He expressed optimism regarding success of summit talks, keeping in view the outcome of latest talks.

He was quoted by the RSS as saying that the major issue yet to be resolved among the political parties was the status of monarchy and all the parties are currently involved in internal homework as a preparation for the upcoming summit talks.

Meanwhile, member of the guerrilla talks team Dev Gurung said that the guerrillas are ready to lockup their weapons in the equal footing with the Nepali Army.

He noted that if the guerrillas lay down their weapons unilaterally, it would convey the message that the guerrilla's armed forces, the People's Liberation Army, had been defeated by the Nepali Army in course of the people's war.

Gurung expressed confidence that the upcoming talks would resolve all the remaining issues.
