Top Chinese advisor Jia Qinglin met in Vilnius Thursday with Chairman of Lithuanian Seimas (parliament) Viktoras Muntianas.

Both sides believe that China and Lithuania have maintained good relationship and gained fruitful results of cooperation since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1991.

During the talks, Jia said it is better for the two countries to keep close contacts at higher level, strengthen dialogue between the two governments, legislative bodies and political parties, and consolidate political basis of bilateral relations.

As chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top advisory body, Jia also said the two countries should further cooperate in the areas such as communications and high-tech projects.

The two governments should also encourage mutual investment and seek more potential fields of growth for economic and trade cooperation while making more efforts for cultural exchanges, said Jia, who started his official goodwill visit to Lithuania earlier on Thursday.

Muntianas said his country is satisfied with the good development of bilateral ties between Lithuania and China. He said the two countries should continue to enhance cooperation and exchange so as to promote development of bilateral relations in various fields.

The parliament chairman also reiterated the one-China policy pursued by the Lithuanian government.

Jia is also one of the nine members of the standing committee of the Political Bureau of Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.

Lithuania is the second leg of Jia's four-nation Europe tour from Oct. 22 to Nov. 3, which has seen his successful visit to Britain and will also take him to Estonia and Ukraine.
