Visiting top Chinese adviser Jia Qinglin met with Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip on Sunday in Tallinn.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), expressed hope that both countries make efforts to upgrade bilateral ties to a new level of development.

The Chinese side is satisfied with the smooth relations between the two countries and the fruitful cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, culture and education, Jia said.

Last year, bilateral trade reached 369 million U.S. dollars, increasing by 65 percent compared to the previous year, Jia said.

Now, Estonia has become China's largest trading partner in the three Baltic countries, he added.

Citing the complementarity of their two economies, Jia said there is still a potential for cooperation between the two countries.

Ansip said with a business-friendly environment, as evidenced by its fine ports as well as favorable communications and transportation facilities, Estonia can play an important role in facilitating China's economic and trade cooperation with other European countries.

Estonia is willing to further cooperate with the Chinese side for the build-up of a favorable economic and trade relationship which will provide an impetus to the continued and stable development of their political ties, Ansip said.

Estonia is the third leg of Jia's four-nation Europe tour which has taken him to Britain and Lithuania, and will also take him to Ukraine.
