Vietnamese PM calls for closer cooperation between border regions of Vietnam, China
font size

Border regions between Vietnam and China should promote their mutual understanding and strengthen exchanges to accelerate Vietnam-China win-win cooperation, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said on Wednesday.

Vietnam is China's close neighbor and has a big market with a population of 86 million. Vietnam's human resources and political stability provide a favorable environment for attracting investment, Dung said at a forum on Vietnam-China investment and economic relations in Nanning, capital of China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

China is a big power which has achieved rapid and sustainable economic development in recent decades. There exist huge potentials for Vietnam-China economic and trade cooperation, he said.

Vietnam is willing to strengthen exchanges with China's border regions, including Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Yunnan Province, so that the Vietnam-China economic and trade cooperation could be further expanded, he added.

According to Dung, China has become Vietnam's largest trading partner since 2004. Two-way trade volume in 2006 is expected to reach 10 billion U.S. dollars.

On Monday and Tuesday, Dung attended the commemorative summit marking the 15th anniversary of the dialogue partnership between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the third China-ASEAN Expo, and the third China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit.
