A senior official in the eastern Chinese province of Anhui has been jailed for 11 and a half years after being convicted of accepting more than 109,500 U.S. dollars in bribes.

Wang Degui, 49, former vice mayor of the Bozhou City, was sentenced on Monday at the Intermediate People's Court of Wuhu City, said sources with the local government.

The court found Wang accepted bribes in exchange for providing government posts and favors to private business people from 1993 to 2005.

Wang, who was arrested in September 2005, was also found to have received more than 800,000 yuan in cash for which he could not account.

Also in Bozhou, Wang Shoulin, a former member of the city's committee of Communist Party of China (CPC) and head of the city's CPC Organization Department, has resigned as provincial legislator.

Wang Shoulin, 44, "has seriously violated CPC discipline and is suspected of commiting crimes", said an official with the Standing Committee of the Anhui Provincial People's Congress, the provincial legislature, who refused to give his name.

He added that an investigation into Wang's case was underway.

However, the official declined to elaborate the exact reasons for Wang's resignation.
