Donald Tsang offers condolences to late Henry Fok's family

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Donald Tsang Wednesday paid a visit to the home of the late Henry Fok, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, to express his deepest condolence to Fok's family.

Tsang signed the condolence book and bowed to the portrait of Fok as a sign of respect. He said he would remember Fok for his engaging personality and his spirit of always putting the interests of the country first.

"After Mr. Fok's passing, Hong Kong people, regardless of social ranks and political inclinations, have been unanimous in their appreciation of his contributions, which are so creditable," Tsang said, adding that the people's praises reflected the importance of Fok in their hearts.

As the Chief Executive is scheduled to visit Europe next week to meet several state leaders and senior government officials, he will not be able to attend Fok's funeral scheduled on Nov. 7. He has expressed his regrets to the Fok family.

Elaine Fok, on behalf of her family, expressed gratitude to the Chief Executive for the assistance offered by the Central Government and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government on the funeral arrangements.

The Chief Executive, accompanied by his wife Selina, the Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works Sarah Liao, and the Director of the Chief Executive's Office John Tsang, stayed with the Foks for about half an hour.
