Thai government would review the free trade agreement between Thailand and Japan and would hold public hearings on the issue, the Thai News Agency reported on Saturday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pridiyathorn Devakula was quoted by the agency as saying that he thought the previous government had not done the right thing in reaching the FTA agreement with Japan without listening to the public opinions. As a result, he would ask the Cabinet to review the contract and would hold public hearings on the issue.
The Thaksin government reached the FTA agreement with Japan but has not signed the contract yet.
During the debate on the interim government's policy late Friday night, many members the National Legislative Assembly asked the government to review FTA contracts initiated by the previous government.
"We will hold full-scale public hearings on the Thai-Japanese FTA to set a right precedence," Pridiyathorn said.
He said the issue would be sent to the Cabinet for consideration next month.
