General Sonthi Boonyaratkalin, head of Thailand's Council for National Security (CNS) and also army chief, said on Saturday that the military council is preparing to submit three national agendas to the government for immediate implementation.
The government and CNS share the same idea that problems prevailing in the country must be resolved as quickly as possible, which is why the agendas will be submitted to the government, Sonthi was quoted by the Thai News Agency as saying.
He said their themes are unity among the people, solving corruption and a reconciliation between the people, as the King will celebrate his 80th birthday next year.
Unity among the people is a vital factor in the eyes of the military council and the public should cooperate in order to achieve that goal, he said.
Touching on the government's policy presented Friday by Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont to members of the National Legislative Assembly, Sonthi admitted the premier was shouldering a heavy duty and said he realized the magnitude of the task.
He said the CNS was also aware of the serious nature of the task ahead, "but we have to (work together to) make the country sail through the crises."
The interim government, installed by the coup-maker-led CNS on Friday presented its policy platform to the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), with the sufficiency economy as a pivotal principle for running the country in the one-year term.
The policy platform highlighted the government's outlined administration plan comprising five key aspects -- political, economic, social, foreign affairs and security, all of which will be implemented through a "sufficiency approach".
