China-ASEAN railway under construction
font size

China and Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are pushing ahead with the construction of a railway network linking China and Southeast Asian countries. With a total length of 5500 kilometers, the Pan-Asia Railway will start in Kunming in Yunnan Province and run through Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and end in Singapore.

After its completion, the railway will be linked to Mongolia and far eastern Russia, forming a railway network running through the Asian continent. It will also be linked to the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway.

China is already building its section of the railway and hopes the Pan-Asia Railway will be completed as soon as possible, said Lu Dongfu, Vice Minister of Railways at the 8th Pan-Asia Railway Special Group Conference of the ASEAN-Mekong River Basin Development Cooperation held in Kunming.
