font size

Macao's number of registered crime cases reached 8,061 in the first nine months, a year-on-year rise of 3.7 percent, local media reported Thursday.

The Macao Post Daily quoted Cheong Kuoc Va, Secretary for Security, as saying that despite the slight rise of crime cases, Macao's public security situation continued to be "stable."

The number of violent crimes dropped 4.2 percent between January and September, Cheong told the newspaper.

Macao logged an average of 29.6 crime cases per day during the period, the official also disclosed.

The region has a population of 503,000.
