China congratulates Panama on being elected to the UN Security Council and expects further cooperation with Panama on security issues, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said on Thursday.

China would like to further enhance cooperation with Panama on international and regional issues to promote China-Panama relations, Jiang said.

Panama on Tuesday received the approval of the 192-member UN General Assembly to become a non-permanent member of the Security Council.
