People's Daily hails successful Year of Russia in China

China's leading official newspaper People's Daily hailed Friday the successful conclusion of the Year of Russia in China as a "great undertaking with positive achievements".

A commentary said the Year of Russia and the Year of China reflected the two neighbors' strategic and cooperative partnership as well as the aspiration of the two peoples for long-lasting friendship.

Over 200 activities were held during the Year of Russia in China launched in March this year, covering trade and investment promotions, cultural and educational programs and sports contests.

The Year of Russia in China facilitated high-level exchanges between the two governments, and enhanced the two people's mutual understanding and friendship, said the commentary.

Among others, activities such as the National Exhibition on Russia and the Sino-Russian Investment Promotion Week boosted trade cooperation between the two nations.

In the first three quarters of the year, bilateral trade volume hit 24.64 billion U.S. dollars, up 18.8 percent. The year-long trade volume is expected to hit a record high of 36 billion dollars.

The Year of China in Russia to be initiated in 2007 will also be very successful, said the commentary.
