Taiwan prosecutors are investigating whether Chen Shui-bian's children committed perjury and they will be charged if they did.
During questioning, Chen's son, daughter and son-in-law have all said that they treated visiting guests to large banquets or bought luxury gifts for guests at the request of Chen and his wife Wu Shu-chen, the Taiwan media reported.
Chen and his wife Wu can not account for 89 invoices involving more than 2.62 million new Taiwan dollars (about 79,000 U.S. dollars), nor Wu's diamond ring valued at 1.32 million new Taiwan dollars (40,000 U.S. dollars) nor some daily expenses of Chen's son and daughter, the reports said.
Taiwan prosecutors pointed out that Chen's children, as well as his wife, are direct beneficiaries of the alleged misappropriation of the "secret office fund".
Wu was reported to have failed to declare all of her property as many as six times and was fined 440,000 new Taiwan dollars (about 13,750 U.S. dollars).
Wu could face much stiffer fines by the island's property declaration office for not declaring two diamond rings.
Taiwan prosecutors last Friday indicted the island leader's wife Wu on corruption and forgery charges, leading to renewed calls for Chen to resign.
